Job Description:
Rotorcraft Propulsion Flight Control Engineer
We are looking for a Rotorcraft Propulsion Flight Control Engineer for a globally known automotive company, that has entered the eVTOL industry to create a safety focused, hybrid eVTOL. As the Rotorcraft Propulsion Flight Control Engineer, you will report to the Engineering Director of VMS (Vehicle Management System) and be responsible for leading all the activities related to the Propulsion System development. This work will include working with other systems teams and system suppliers. The Propulsion System is part of the Vehicle Management System (VMS) that will host several critical functionalities that control the aircraft flight. This is an onsite job (mentoring is a critical part of the job).
The position requires compliance with the USA Export Control regulations. The candidate is required to be a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. (US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee) or able to obtain “US Person” status. The team is working on Export Licenses for non “US Persons” for some areas of the development.
Responsibilities:
· Lead the development of all aspects of the Propulsion System.
· Develop the Propulsion System architecture and its interfaces with other aircraft systems.
· Select and work with system and equipment suppliers.
· Provide subject matter expert level technical leadership, mentoring and guidance on both practical and theoretical aspects of propulsion systems development, testing, and certification according to the industry rules, guidance, and standards.
· Mentor young engineers on aerospace systems development.
· Maintain good relationships and coordinate activities of the Propulsion System team with other teams, including other systems teams, Program Management team, Flight Test team, certification authorities, consultants, suppliers, etc.
· Determine and manage activities to be performed by the system suppliers or other third-party companies supporting the development, testing, and certification.
· Coordinate and support discussions with regulatory agencies and certification authorities from the USA and other countries.
Required Skillset:
· 10+ years of experience in propulsion systems in either Commercial (Part 23, 25, 27, and/or 29) or Military aircraft programs.
Part 27 and 29 is highly preferred.
Previous experience with Type Certification
5+ years leading engineering teams.
5+ years of experience in teaching, coaching, and developing others.
Expert level experience in powertrain, electric propulsion system, and high voltage DC systems
Experience in equipment and systems qualification, system safety assessment and certification
Knowledge and experience with highly integrated system development following SAE guidance ARP-4754A.
Implementation experience is strongly preferred.
Knowledge and experience with systems comprised of items compliant with RTCA standards applicable to aircraft development like DO-160, DO-254, DO-178, DO-331 and others.
Implementation experience is strongly preferred.
A bachelor’s Degree in relevant engineering area.
Knowledge with aircraft certification with FAA, EASA, TCCA, and/or other aircraft certification authorities around the world.
Must be able to demonstrate a clear understanding, knowledge, and ability to develop critical and highly integrated aircraft systems.
Experience working with executive leadership teams, using performance indicators and metrics to provide reports.
Ability to contribute to high level discussions in a highly collaborative and diverse environment.
Bonus Skillset:
Master’s degree in relevant engineering area is highly preferred.
Experience with aircraft certification with FAA, EASA, TCCA, and/or other aircraft certification authorities around the world preferred.
