Systems Engineer, Verification and Validation for Hybrid eVTOL in North Carolina

Summary:

We are looking in need of a Lead Systems Engineer, focusing on Verification and Validation for a globally known automotive company, that has entered the eVTOL industry to create a safety focused, hybrid eVTOL. You will be responsible for leading all activities relating to the verification and validation (V&V) of the hybrid eVTOL. Ideal candidates should have prior experience with DO178 process, hands on experience working on fixed wing or helicopters, integration test facilities or system integration lab work and understands how to set up automated testing/ has done projects on test automation. You will communicate with key stakeholders on the process on the project and be directly involved in the growth of the team. You will hire a team of 10+ Engineers in the coming years, which will include mentorship and guidance, with the development and growth of the eVTOL project.

Responsibilities:

Lead this team as a hands-on member establishing processes and standards for verification and validation activities and its systems, in conjunction with the Engineering team.
Utilize your previous experience with certifications DO-178 and ARP-4754A to set up the verification and validation projects for the full eVTOL project.
Build out a full plan, develop the processes, and hire resources for your team from start to finish.
Determine and manage the activities of the V&V team, controlling scheduling, budget, and resources.
Lead the selection and development/customization of the required tools supporting V&V activities.
Execute software testing both offline and in the lab, as well as test automation.
Establish the Safety of Flight (SOF) V&V criteria for the hybrid eVTOL and its systems.
Conduct formal testing and set up automated testing – this project requires test automation.
Define and maintain configuration control of V&V.
Lead the recruitment efforts for the V&V team.
Provide subject matter expert level technical leadership, mentoring and guidance on both practical and theoretical aspects of V&V processes and best practices according to the industry rules, guidance, and standards.
Maintain relationships and coordinate activities of the V&V team with other teams, including other aircraft systems teams, Program Management team, Flight Test team, certification authorities, consultants, suppliers, etc.
Determine and manage activities to be performed by the system suppliers or other third-party companies supporting the project.
Coordinate and support discussions with regulatory agencies and certification authorities from the USA and other countries, related to V&V.
Track and report status of the V&V team to ensure milestones are achieved as planned, while keeping team motivation and collaboration spirit.

Required Skillset:

10+ years of experience in complex aerospace system V&V in either Commercial (Part 23, 25, 27, and/or 29) or Military aircraft programs.
5+ years leading V&V teams as well as providing teaching, coaching, mentoring and developing team members.
Knowledge and experience with systems comprised of items compliant with RTCA standards applicable to aircraft development like DO-178, DO-160, DO-254, and others.
Experience with aircraft products, whether that is fixed wing or helicopter, integration test facility works or system integration lab work.
Knowledge and experience with highly integrated system development following SAE guidance ARP-4754A.
Ability to create their own established plan, develop these processes and implement these with the team.
Experience in test automation.
Understands formal testing, formal verification, and validation processes.
Must be able to demonstrate a clear understanding, knowledge, and ability to develop V&V processes for critical and highly integrated aircraft systems.
Deep understanding of V&V processes, standards, and tools, including large scale test automation.
Experience working with executive leadership teams, using performance indicators and metrics to provide reports.
Experience with problem/issue report processes, risk tracking and mitigation.
Bachelor’s Degree in relevant engineering area.

Bonus Skillset:

Knowledge and experience in DO-331.
Knowledge and experience with systems comprised of items compliant with RTCA standards applicable to aircraft development including DO-160 and DO-254.
Knowledge and experience with aircraft certification with FAA, EASA, TCCA, and/or other aircraft certification authorities around the world preferred.
Understands how to set up automated testing, has experience or has done projects on test automation is preferred.
