Hybrid eVTOL Electronics Engineer in Southern CA
Responsibilities:
Activities Related to Design:
Responsible for VMSE system requirements definition (functions, requirement, safety design and architecture development, integration, and installation.)
Responsible for VMSE interface with multiple systems; Flight Control Propulsion System, Flight Control Surface Actuation System, Power Supply System, Thermal Management System, Avionic etc.
Support VMSE Safety Assessment, special installation, and integration.
Interface on internal and external aircraft.
Make short and long-term plans to address VMSE technical challenges.
May propose verification activity (design study, simulation and testing verification) to solve critical technical challenges.
Activities Related to Tests:
Define Ground Test Proposals.
Support Flight Test Proposals.
Support Ground and Flight Test execution.
Define qualification requirements as per DO-160G.
Lead and execute R&D activity (simulation, ground testing, etc.) to build essential technology.
Supplier interface and management:
Requirements flow down, validation and verification.
Follow the main deliverables to support Commercial Team.
Technical proposals evaluation.
Requests for Information and for Proposal and SoW elaboration.
Activities Related to Mentorship:
Provide mentorship and support as needed to engineering team members with little to no aviation/aerospace background.
May be involved with teaching, coaching and developing junior engineering team members.
Required Skillset:
10+ years of deep, hands-on experience Vehicle Management System development, design, and testing in a Military, Commercial, or business aircraft development programs.
5+ years of demonstrated experience specific to Vehicle Management System Electronics (Fly-by-wire flight control computer, sensors) integration and associated technologies and managing system suppliers as technical point of contact.
Experience and expertise in eVTOL (electrical vertical takeoff and landing) or Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV).
Previous experience with flight controller including interface design (actuators, avionics, and other systems).
Experience with Data bus development including embedded systems.
Familiarity and previous working experience in an R&D environment.
5+ years of experience in teaching, coaching, and developing others.
Integration of Control Laws, Monitors and Redundancy Management.
Familiarity with FAA and EASA certification processes.
In-depth and current knowledge of Part 23/25/27 and/or 29 regulatory requirements, including system development per ARP4754A and ARP4761.
Experience with all phases of aircraft development from concept to certification and entry into service.
Experience with system or equipment (Hardware and Software) development per ARP-4754A, DO-254, DO-178C.
Familiarity with Model Based Design and DO-331.
Qualification of equipment's as per DO-160G and other MIL STD's.
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical engineering, computer science, aerospace engineering area, or a related area.
Experience in developing and debugging software for embedded systems and real-time operating systems.
Familiarity with vehicle communication protocols (CAN, RS-485, ARINC-429, Ethernet) and diagnostic tools.
Bonus Skillset:
Experience with software development methodologies and tools (Agile, SCRUM, JIRA etc.).
Familiarity with Python or similar scripting languages to conduct analysis.
Familiarity with modeling tools (Matlab/Simulink).
Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve complex system issues.
Strong attention to detail to ensure the reliability and safety of the vehicle management system.
Ability to read, understand, and interpret the results of engineering analyses.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams with people in different places from different cultures.
Effective communication skills to interact with stakeholders, including hardware engineers, software developers, and project managers.
Self-motivated and proactive attitude towards problem-solving and continuous improvement.
